How Would You Cherish Your Dear Ones After Their Death, By Dispersing Or Burying Or Keeping Their Ashes ?
After the last rites are done, there are several methods to rest the dead loved one. One of the various means can be decided based on any wish expressed by the loved one when alive or the religious beliefs of the loved one or the normal practice allowed by the laws of the land. If the dead person had a certain desire of how he should be handled after death his wishes are usually carried on. Otherwise the close family and relatives think of the best method by which they can dispose the body by showing due respect and love.
Based on religious beliefs, the Muslim laws commend the burial of their dead. The Hindus strictly follow burning of their dead loved ones. Most Hindus prefer cremating their dead family member in an open burial ground with firewood. But with the current trend, people of the Hindu faith have also started using the electric crematorium for its benefits of no smoke and the quicker process.
The Hindus adopt the habit of burning their dead and collecting the ashes that remain. These ashes are safe guarded and taken to a sacred place of worship like the River Ganges to be immersed in it. The family of the dead take all efforts to reach these places of pilgrimage and to scatter their ashes over its holy waters. The Christians have for time buried their dead. Now burial grounds are disappearing due to lack of sufficient land. This has led to electric crematorium becoming more popular even among the Christians.
What should be done with the cremated remains is a question whose answer should comply with the laws governing the region and should be the desire of the dead person or if not, must be the well thought best alternative decided by the close family members. Local crematoriums will give the list of choices they have if contacted in case of a death in the family. Nowadays, the trend has become such that these crematoriums have online questionnaires which can be filled up by the person when alive to express his wishes of how his remains should be laid to rest. The questionnaire will have questions pertaining to the age, gender, religious faith and other common details.
There is a part in the questionnaire that would gain insight on how the ashes of the dead person should be disposed. Answers under it would vary and would include the below:
• Bury in the familial vault.
• Bury it in a Garden of Remembrance.
• Bury in the home garden.
• Keep the ashes in your home in an urn.
• Choose a memorial tree to lay it down.
• Disperse it over large bodies of water.
• Scatter in places of pilgrimage.
• Let a hot air balloon carry it into the skies.
• If you choose two or more of these options, make portions of the ashes and proceed to do as you choose with them.
Most of these choices will be for your use based on the country you reside in and the crematorium you decide to perform the cremation. In countries like the UK, people have moved on from burial and are choosing to cremate their loved dead ones. They carefully collect the remaining ashes in urns and prefer to bring it to their own homes rather than sprinkling them in places of remembrances or religious interests. At home, they are kept in decorated places to be fondly remembered or buried in their family garden or under a special tree. Finally it is the law of the state where you live in, that will decide if you can consider all these options.
If one is not very comfortable with the idea of bringing the ashes of dead people home, they are offered many other ways to bury or scatter them in good places. Certain places have wonderful gardens where loved ones can bury the urn with the ashes of their loved one and mark that particular spot with a plant. As it grows and flowers, a note with the name of the loved one and notes in their fond remembrance can be placed on it. To go one step further, the area surrounding it can be selected and used to bury the remains of the other family members.
With the conservation of nature being considered in every step of life, even in death this can be lived up to by choosing the ‘Green Burial’. There are ‘green’ cemeteries where the ash of the loved one is placed in a bio-degradable bag or urn and is buried over which plants and flowers grow. Another wild option would be a sea burial, wherein one can hire a boat to carry them to a part of the sea where the ashes are placed into a bio-degradable bag and is dropped into the waters after reciting their dead loved ones favourite poem or singing their most loved song. Just make sure that, whatever you finally decide to do with their ashes, is in accordance with what they had wanted when they were alive and by doing that you have the satisfaction of having done the best to show that they were very special to you.
