Westboro Baptists Not Really A Target Of Anonymous
Anonymous, the “hacktivist” group that has been making waves recently, is rumored to have selected a new goal. An open letter recently posted on an Anonymous related site indicated the next goal would be the Westboro Baptist Church. However, members of the group have insisted the religious hate group isn't one of the top items on the Anonymous agenda.
Westboro is nothing compared to what Anonymous is doing
An open letter was found on a website somewhat affiliated with the internet "hacktivist" group Anonymous, and it was directed at the controversial Westboro Baptist Church. The open letter led to speculation that Anonymous was going to goal the group for Directed Denial of service, or DDoS, attacks in the near future, in accordance with CBS. It said that Anonymous wanted Westboro Baptists church to stop because the "inhumane treatment of fellow Man has reached its apex" in accordance with the letter. BBC reports that Anonymous members said a DDoS assault on the Westboro Baptists or even the Phelps family wouldn’t occur since there are “more pressing matters to deal with” right now.
Reaction comes from Westboro church
Anonymous is “a puddle of pimple-faced nerds” which is what the Westboro Baptist Church responded with. Anonymous was worried that it was a trap somehow. They asked members not to target WBC yet. Typically, the group is more interested in larger adversaries than the WBC. However, a group of rogue members could effortlessly organize an attack since Anonymous does not have a formal structure at all. However, Anonymous has taken on religious organizations before, as there was a public feud between Anonymous and the Church of Scientology.
WBC is small potatoes
Recently, Anonymous has been dealing with huge groups and organizations. The tiny group that works on hate speech at funerals and on campuses at colleges is not a big group like this. Egyptian government sites were targeted by the “hacktivists” in the group after the Internet service was cut off in Egypt. Also, when WikiLeaks was cut off by Visa, MasterCard and Paypal, the corporations all got attacked.
