History of the World Series

Baseball World Series Championship is an annual event which is the championship title for the preceding MLB season. The two League Champions from the National League and the American League. The A's have appeared in the World Series as the AL representative 15 times and won the World Series 9 times. The team most recently took home the prize in 1989 when they were led by Jose Conseco and Rickey Henderson. The Oakland Athletics most historic championship run was between 1972 and 1974 when they won three consecutive World Series titles. The teams during this time relied heavily on outfielder Reggie Jackson and pitchers {Catfish Hunter and Vida Blue|Vida Blue and Catfish Hunter.

The New York Yankees, who are also in the AL, have competed in the World Series Championship 39 Times and have taken home the title 28 times. Both the Oakland A's and NY Yankees have taken home the more times than any other team in MLB history. The Yankees have been an extremely successful franchise the franchises history, their best run during an incredible 45 year period from 1920 through 1964. In this time the NY Yankees went to the World Series r record 29 times and won the Championship 20. During these years, many of the best baseball players of all time competed for the Yankees, including Mickey Mantle, babe Rush and Lou Gehrig. The Yankees most recently won the Championship in 2009 when they were led by Alex Rodriquez and Derek Jeter.

Following the New York Yankees, the most accomplished team in World Series Championship history has been the St Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals, who are in the National League, have made it to the Title Game 17 times and have won the title 10 times. The Cardinals last won the World Series in 2006 when they were led by first basemen Albert Pujols. The Cardinals had an incredible run of success between 1926 and 1934 when they went to the series 5 times winning 3. World Series is amazing and during the years 1942 and 1946 the Cardinals won another 3 championships as they were led by Hall of Famer Stan Musial.
