How is the Subject of Marriage Addressed in the Holy Bible?
The Bible has sold more than any other books and was actually the first book ever printed by the printed press. People quote it the world over, and yet many don't even know the words of wisdom it has to impart. The Bible is God's plan for the world. Any given situation is discussed in the Bible and lets you know how God wants you to handle that situation. One of the main themes in the Bible is that of marriage. Man wasn't created to be alone and God said in the first book of Genesis. He created woman to give man procreation and companionship. Are you wondering what else the Bible has to say on the topic of marriage?
Marriage is clearly defined by God in the Bible. A woman and a man form a union known as marriage. He clearly states that any other type of union is forbidden and it is a sin to engage in them. Paul, one of God's disciples, discusses God's wrath against mankind in the book of Romans. Paul said that God really got mad when “their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones with lust for one another.” Paul also says that “Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.”
Even without the examples provided by Paul, we can clearly understand how a marriage is supposed to work. Paul was speaking to ancient people who shared the morals of their time; and the advice he shared back then doesn't resonate well with some of the modern women of today. Back then, it was a woman's job to obey her husband and allow him to lead the house. Husbands are supposed to love their wives as they love themselves after leaving their parents.
The Bible doesn't discuss how one should go about getting a divorce. If you read the book of Matthew, you will clearly see that Jesus said that “anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness and marries another woman commits adultery.” Jesus says that it is not a requirement to get married in order to show devotion to the church. But if you can accept the marital teachings, then they can safely go ahead and get married. However, only a husband and wife should have children. Therefore, people would have to get married in order for the human race to survive.
