Summer Is The Best Time For Kids To Read
You may be interested in learning how you can maintain or even augment your son or daughter's reading ability during the summer. It's not complicated, just get them interested in reading more. The free public library in your city or town can be an excellent resource. A lot of different public libraries have summer reading sessions with specific detailed choices for children. These sittings are particularly programmed to encourage the children to continue reading and give them more incentives to keep reading. To prop up the habit, certain important events are occasionally put onto the schedule.
You can call or visit your library to find out what events and activities they have agreed on for the summer. If you still haven't joined your local library, getting a card is as simple as verifying your address.
After learning about your children's reading abilities and interests, the library's personnel can make recommendations to you about what books to get for them. A good way to determine the child's reading level is to speak with the teacher at the end of the school year.
You can look at some excellent online resources such as Age and Grade Book lists for children's books to get an idea of the suggested books for particular grade levels.
One way of getting your child's reading habits in better form would be to search for books that relate to his or her interests.
Books in series, including those written by "Louisa May Alcott" and "Lloyd Alexander," can be found in most libraries. You can find countless paperbacks edition for beginning or intermediate readers at your local library. If you cannot find the book you seek at your local library, you might want to try bookstores or online stores.
An additional method of helping to motivate your child is to read aloud to them nearly every day. This benefits them by helping their listening skills and increasing their vocabulary.
Also remember the non fiction portion of your local public library. Lots of children like reading fictional stories as well as nonfiction. Children tend to be more intrigued by specific topics such as science, animals, and even stories about people and their adventures. A lot of kids would like books to explain to them how to do things, such as drawing and juggling.
Summer is the perfect opportunity for parents to encourage their children to develop and expand their interests by reading books.
