What To Do When Work Become Unbearable
You may feel you can't sneeze in your office without offending someone these days but all those rules are there for a reason and when you're the one being harassed you're going to be very glad they're there. We can't say brainstorm any more it has to be a thought shower, we don't have milkmen any more we have milk people. We shouldn't have to put up with it but it's all to easy for a woman to feel like they're being singled out, victimised or downright bullied just because she's a woman and this isn't right.
You first port of call shouldn't be the wanted section, you don't have to look for a new job or take legal action not till you've tried a few other things first. If things are bad you might decide you want to talk to a business law solicitor so you're sure exactly what your options are and to get the right advice. The most common advice they give is to keep a written record of anything you feel isn't appropriate behaviour at work. You need to record exactly what was said and who by and when they said it too. You don't necessarily have to call an official meeting with your manager, you might just want to have a quick chat with the person upsetting you and it might be a case they'll back off. If the situation still shows no sign of improving you might want to then think about talking to a an employment law solicitor.
This is not something you can enter into lightly so before you start legal action you need to be sure this is what you want. There's also the possibility that your place of work won't support you which might make your case even harder. If you're taking action against the company itself you're going to need an expert in company law. This could get very expensive very quickly especially if you don't have the backing of a union.
