A bedroom has always fundamentally been considered a place to sleep. Only in recent times has it also been seen as a place to relax or a quiet space to do some reading or even make an uninterrupted phone call. With the functionality of bedrooms changing, homeowners now look to adding alternative furniture and décor to suit their needs. If you need ideas then look no further than French bedrooms. The French have always been the leaders in romantic and sensual décor and this is particularly the case in their bedroom designs.
When looking at the required style and use of your bedroom, colours are as good a place as any to start. Reds and pinks give a warm, romantic glow to the room but if you prefer not to experiment with too much colour, add some warm cream colours to the wall and flooring. The romantic reds and pinks can be saved for soft furnishings such as curtains and bedding. Candles also give a lovely glow to any room…remembering, of course, to blow them out before going to sleep!
Obviously the room lighting is important as it shouldn't be too bright but at the same time not to dim either, so plenty of soft lighting is the best compromise. Traditionally to achieve the best effect in a room for reading in you should look towards the softer shades of ivory, amber and slate blue. If you are trying to achieve a sanctuary effect when remodelling the master bedroom, then soft pillows, luxurious throws, landscape paintings and mirrors will promote private reflection.
Adding some family photographs to the walls or surfaces is a good way to decorate your room. Many believe waking up to a favourite family photograph is the best way to motivate yourself at the start of a day. Family photographs can bring about feelings of love and warmth which is the perfect setting for any bedroom.
Many designs are now are based around hotel-like themes. If space is available a small writing desk can be added or a music and television area. Many believe that watching a television in your bedroom is bad for you, that your mind will be too active to sleep after watching a film or news programme. However, is that is your way of relaxing then why not? Continuing with the hotel ideas, some bedroom designers now include a small fridge cabinet accompanied by tea and coffee making facilities. Whether you are staying in a hotel on holiday or whilst on business, your hotel room is seen as your space, your haven whilst away. This theme is simply being transferred into people’s homes and into their bedrooms.
