Author visits can be both fun and educational
Author school visits are a common practice throughout the world. After all, schools want to encourage the children to make reading and writing a natural part of their lives. A visit from an author imparts inspiration and knowledge, as well as making a refreshing change to the school routine.
If children can focus their young minds on a good book or writing a quality story themselves, they gain in many ways. Successful education is built upon the secure foundation of quality reading and writing.
Literacy skills are extremely important in life, whether someone is actively being creative with words or simply reading the information on a packet of food. A visiting writer has the enthusiasm and skill to entice children into the realm of books.
For everyone it is a memorable occasion when an author visit takes place. The writer will address individual classes of children, two classes together or even the whole school.
The knowledge imparted will be first hand and therefore alive and accurate. The expertise of a professional author will be clearly explained to them. They will hear about how and why the visiting author began to enjoy writing books. They will hear about the joys and difficulties of creating books.
"Where do your ideas come from?" is a question frequently put to writers. The response from a genuine writer will come from his heart and he can describe his own creative ways. The creation of ideas is very important to an author of fiction and they can talk about it with enthusiasm. They will describe times of insight and creativity. Through all this, the pupils will discover their ability to be creative when writing.
During the author's visit, children can buy his books, which is an additional benefit arising from the day. When the books are autographed by the author, the children receive something personal to each of them. This leaves children with a precious souvenir of the day as well as a book to read.
