A Fast Peek on Flamenco and Spain’s Music

A world wide popular music that is extracted from Spain is Flamenco which a number of people considered it is widely spread all throughout Spain. On the contrary, Flamenco is only known just in one area of Spain; an autonomous community in Spain called Andalusia, which is considered the largest in terms of land area in the country. Most people have no idea that Flamenco was not really accepted as a popular music and dance form before, and a lot of the information found about the Flamenco can be shown by by its troubled history.
Probably one of the main reasons why Flamenco was not so known is that it is said to be an influence to Andalusia by the gypsies which have never really been a famous group to people all over the world. The Flamenco’s fast, sweeping movements and quick foot work has been borrowed by a number of dance cultures worldwide. The art form persist to grow even though it was largely neglected by other regions.
It was a hard time during the early centuries and there are a number of preconceive notions against Gypsies during that time which was regarded to make up the poor people in Andalusia and which may have had a big influence in the roots of Flamenco. To believe that a lot of people have no respect for Gypsies is an understatement; because of their lifestyle and culture, gypsies were looked down on and considered as an extremely low social class by many countries around the world, including Spain. Also, Flamenco was mostly danced by the common people or the lower levels of society, and upper class society did not have much concern on it; the historians that time failed to find the vitality in recording such music. Another major factor why it’s difficult to locate its beginnings is because the poor people who practiced the music only preserved the art by oral traditions because they are illiterate and does not know how to write; in addition to that the poor people during those times were being persecuted during the Spanish Inquisition in 1492.
Researchers and historians, as well as experts our time are still trying to determine the exact roots and history of Flamenco; it’s not even sure where and how Flamenco got its name. So much so that until the present generation, many people study and perform this musical and dance style all over the world.
