Ceiling Insulation Is A Handy Innovation
Whenever I notice a photo of candy floss pink ceiling insulation fresh from the manufacturer it reminds me of American author Laura Ingalls Wilder’s account of awakening one morning to discover a layer of snowfall covering the bed she and her sister shared. Snow had filtered via cracks in the roofing during the night and had not dissolved because the temperature inside the tiny prairie home was so frigid. Apparently, the snow had provided the sisters some degree of insulation in creating a heavy layer on top of the blankets which, I suppose, was some consolation in an unforgiving land so frigid in winter that ice needed to be cleaned from the noses of livestock so that the animals would not suffocate. Still, I have never ceased to be surprised at the struggles Laura’s family were required to withstand before modern conveniences like ceiling insulation were invented. Thankfully, today’s insulated ceilings could not be farther from little Laura’s ordeals.
In the unlikely circumstance that you are unfamiliar with this substance it typically is available in 2 forms: loose fill and batting rolls. Loose fill insulation is sprayed directly onto the area designated for insulation while batting sheets are set down in strips. Ceiling insulation performs three key tasks in the house. For starters, it protects the inhabitants of a house from heat and cold weather, and secondly, assists to conserve energy. The third attribute is that it has acoustic properties.
Protection from heat and cold
Insulation keeps you cool in summer time by stopping the sun’s heat from getting into the house by way of the roof and becoming trapped in the rooms beneath. In winter it holds the warmth produced by heating appliances by stopping it from getting away through the roof structure. Furthermore, it insulates chimneys and fireplaces and will prevent draughts. It can also be employed to cover geysers and pipes. Not only does covering of piping stop them all from freezing and later dripping or bursting, it also prevents water from freezing in the pipes in winter. In summer months, insulation protects pipes from the high temperature, therefore the water that comes out of the faucets can be refreshingly cooler.
Conserves energy
Ceiling insulation prevents heat from dissipating through the roof meaning that you will save on heating bills. On the other hand, it will help cool your house in summer. You will not only save money on air conditioning bills but you may not have to make use of this environmentally unfriendly equipment whatsoever.
Acoustic properties
This useful material absorbs sound so that it can help insulate rooms from noisy surroundings.
Aside from the abovementioned functions, ceiling insulation is safe to have in your house since it is made from natural substances like glass and cannot burn. Additionally, it is made from recycled glass products which makes it kind on the environment. Ceiling insulation also doesn't contain asbestos which is another point in its favor from a medical perspective and it can prevent mould from growing inside your home because it absorbs moisture from showers and cooking while simultaneously preventing humidity and moisture from outside from entering the home.
